The Police Command in Kano thwarted an attempt by suspected thugs to invade the residence of Prince Abdullahi Abbas, Chairman of the state’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to a statement by police spokesman Mr. Abdullahi Kiyawa, the incident occurred on May 31 at around 6 p.m. A distress call was received from Chiranchi junction in Gwale Local Government Area, reporting that armed thugs were pelting people with stones and attempting to enter the APC chairman’s house.
A team led by the Divisional Police Officer, Gwale Division, responded swiftly and foiled the invasion, restoring normalcy to the area. While no arrests were made, the police investigation revealed that the incident was a clash between two rival gangs. The identified masterminds are Abdul’Yassar, alias Jonny, Birbiri, and Jinjiri Aljan. Efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
In response to the incident, a round-the-clock patrol has been launched in the area to prevent further disturbances. Mr. Kiyawa emphasized the police’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in Kano State, highlighting this swift action as proof of their commitment to protecting the community.
“We have mapped out security measures to enable residents to continue their legitimate activities without threats to lives and property. We appeal to all law-abiding and peace-loving residents to volunteer timely and credible information on the movement of suspected characters in their midst for prompt security action,” he added.
Confirming the attempted invasion, APC Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas stated that during the incident, two vehicles and a tricycle were destroyed. “I was informed that a large number of people attempted to attack my house. Incidentally, I was not at home during the incident,” Abbas said. He noted that he immediately notified the police of the development.
